Joint decision made by DHS and Labor Department.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Labor recently published a statement announcing the expansion of the H-2B visa program. They have allowed 35,000 additional workers to stay in the United States for jobs that typically increase in demand over the summer months, such as landscaping, hotel employment, and event management. This is in addition to the 20,000 additional visas the departments granted in January of this year.
“These additional H-2B visas will help employers meet the demand for seasonal workers at this most critical time, when there is a serious labor shortage,” said DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. “The visas are accompanied by significant worker protections and provide a safe and lawful pathway for individuals to come to the United States and earn wages in jobs that are not filled by American workers.”
